Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) concludes its 21st FOSTAC Session
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) which has collaborated with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for Food Safety Training and Certification Programme for Master Trainers and Supervisors in Advance Catering concluded its 21st session on March 1, 2018 at Hyatt Regency, Ludhiana. Five sessions of Food Safety Supervisors in Advance Catering under FOSTAC were held on February 15, (The Imperial, New Delhi); February 24 (Grand Hotel, Agra); February 26 (Radisson Hotel, Shimla) ; February 28 (Regenta Central Hotel, Amritsar) and March 1 2018,(Hyatt Regency, Ludhiana)
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India identifies the significance of these sessions and we are positive about the benefits and success of each programme. The recently concluded programmes in New Delhi, Agra, Shimla, Amritsar and Ludhiana received an overwhelming participation of 159 professionals from hotels and restaurant in the respective cities taking the total count to 673 said Mr. Sanjay Sood, President HRANI.
Food business across India, from roadside eateries to restaurants, will have to comply with a wide set of food safety rules, norms and procedures, and obtain Food Business Operator (FBO) licences. HRANI by organizing the sessions has familiarised hoteliers and restaurateurs with the finer nuances of food safety and hygiene. The association has also aimed at readying members for becoming FSSAI-compliant stated Mr Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, Hony Secretary, HRANI& FHRAI
As per Mr Garish Oberoi President FHRAI and Treasurer HRANI “FSSAI by initiating Training and Certification programme has helped Food Business fraternity and our members to be thorough and fully equipped to meet standards that are internationally accepted and followed”. He further stated that it is now mandatory for all FBO’s having Central or Sate license of FSSAI having at least one trained and certified Food Safety Supervisor for every 25 food handlers or part thereof on all their premises and failing to it will lead to non-renewal of FSSAI license.
FIVE SESSIONS IN A ROW
Ludhiana; The next Food Safety Training and Certification programme for Supervisors in Advance Catering was held on March 1, 2018 at Hyatt Regency Ludhiana. While addressing the participants, Mr Amarvir Singh, Vice President, HRANI informed about the importance of certification. He also informed that the Food Safety Supervisor will be nominated by the owner of a food business organization (FBO) and may be the business owner, manager or an employee who is in charge of Food Safety in their organization. He also stated that the Food Safety Supervisor will have the responsibility of ensuring hygiene and food safety implementation in their respective establishments.

As per Secretary General, Renu Thapliyal HRANI has been privileged to serve as a vibrant interface between the Government and industry and under the able leadership and guidance of Mr. Sanjay Sood President and the members of Managing Committee of HRANI, the association will continue to spread awareness and facilitate its members by conduction session across Northern India.
Amritsar : The Food Safety Training and Certification Session was organised on February 28, 2018 at Hotel Regenta Central, Amritsar. HRANI places on record the support of Mr. Amarvir Singh, Vice President HRANI. The association also place on record the support of Mr Rajan Bedi, Managing Director and the team of Regenta Central Amritsar in organizing the same.
Shimla: The session was organized on February 26, 2018 at Radisson Hotel, Shimla. HRANI places on record the support of Mr. Vikas Kapoor, Vice President - Operations Radisson Khajuraho and Shimla in organizing the same. It was the fourth session held in Shimla. Ms Mansi Thaker,Quality Manager, Parikshan Chennai was the faculty and Ms Divya Bhaskaran Senior Food Analyst, Parikshan was the assessor.
AGRA : The session was organized on February 24, 2018 at Grand Hotel, Agra. HRANI places on record the support of its MC Member, Mr Arun Dang, Partner, Grand Hotel, Agra in organizing the same. Mr. Vikas Gupta Assistant Professor -1 in School of Hospitality, Amity University, Noida & Ms. Pritha Tripathi,Scientist (IV)I (Training) was the faculty.
New Delhi: The Food Safety Training and Certification Session for Supervisors in Advance Catering was organised on February 15, 2018 at The Imperial, New Delhi. Mr. Vivekanand Chandrasekaran, Operations head, Mumbai Parikshan was the faculty.
Mr Sanjay Sood, President, HRANI in his address specifically thanked FSSAI. He also made a special mention for Mr. Vijay Wanchoo Sr. Executive Vice President & General Manager, The Imperial and the management for all support in organizing events of HRANI.
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) continues to spread awareness on Food Safety Training & Certification Program (FOSTAC) initiated by FSSAI. Being the FSSAI empanelled lead training partner for organized sector across North India, HRANI has organized a series of eight training and certification sessions in the month of November, 2017 & One in December, 2017. These sessions comprised of training and certification of Master Trainers (Training of Trainers) in Advance catering and Food Safety Supervisors in Advance catering. The training and certification sessions were held in Nainital (13th November), Udaipur (20th & 21st November), Jaipur (22nd & 23rd November), Shimla (24th & 25th November) and Dehradun (10th December).
The objective behind the certification programme has to familiarise the hoteliers and restaurateurs with the finer nuances of food safety and hygiene and to effectively cascade the communication to grass root level in the establishment to uniformly implement the process.
December 10, 2017 @ Hotel Madhuban, Dehradun
HRANI organized a Food Safety Training and Certification Session recently at Hotel Madhuban Dehradun. Sh G. C. Kandwal, Designated Officer, Food Safety and Sh P. C. Joshi, Food Safety Officer were present. The session was taken up by Mr Vivekanand Chandrasekaran from Parikshan and was well attended.
November 24-25, 2017 @ Hotel Combermere, Shimla.
The faculty at Shimla included Dr. V. Pasupathy, Scientist & Advisor to FHRAI; Ms. Pritha Tripathi, Scientist (Training), FSSAI .
Addressing the participants, Mr Sanjay Sood stated that the objective to organize these sessions is to create a pool of trainers in the country who will have expertise on safety, standards and FSS regulation. The pool of Master Trainer will be a conduit for training the Food Safety Supervisors.
November 22-23, 2017 @ Hotel Mansingh, Jaipur
The faculty at Jaipur included Dr. Khurshed Alam Khan, Divisional Manager, Head, Research & Development, ITC Hotels; Ms Jagruti Arun Shete, Head Quality Assurance, Manager Hygiene – Hotel J W Marriott Mumbai Sahar: Mr Soumalya Banerjee, Assistant Director (Training), FSSAI.
Both the sessions were held in Jaipur with the help of Mr Bharat Aggarwal & Mr. Ajay Agarwal, MC Members of HRANI in association with Hotel & Restaurant Association of Rajasthan (HRAR). The sessions were well attended by the members. A Press conference was also held in Jaipur.
November 20-21, 2017 @ Fateh Prakash Palace, Udaipur
The faculty of these sessions comprised of eminent trainers Sh. Sanjay R. Verghese, Director - Materials & Food Safety, who is also a Master Trainer certified by FSSAI. Ms Heena Yadav & Mr. Soumalya Banerjee from FSSAI were also present.
The training session was followed by Food Safety Supervisor Training on November 21, 2017.
These Sessions were held in Udaipur with the help of Managing Committee Member from Udaipur; Maharaj Kumar Lakshyaraj Singh Ji Mewar, Executive Director, Historic Resorts Hotels P. Ltd.
November 13, 2017 @ Shevani Hilltop Nainital
The session was attended by the food handlers from member establishments of HRANI. The faculty of these session comprised of eminent trainers Sh. Sanjay Kumar, Executive Chef, Shervani Hospitalities Ltd who is also a Master Trainer certified by FSSAI. The session also witnessed the presence of Ms Pritha Tripathi Scientist (IV) (Training) from FSSAI.

HRANI & FSSAI series of Master Trainer Sessions
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India & Food Safety and Standard Authority of India with the support of State Government organised a series of Sessions for empanelling pool of Master Trainer for training Food Safety Supervisors.
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India has been made the lead Training Partner for organized sector in Northern Region by FSSAI. With an objective to extend all support to FSSAI towards this contemplative initiative, HRANI has decided to initiate series of training sessions to empanel a pool of Master Trainers from its Hotel and Restaurant Members from nine states.
Lucknow Session held on January 31, 2017 at Hotel Deep Palace Cantt Road
The beginning of the initiative was marked from the capital of Uttar Pradesh, city of Nawabs - Lucknow on January 31, 2017 at Hotel Deep Palace Cantt Road, Lucknow. The session was organized jointly by HRANI and UPHRA with the support of FSSAI. The event was attended by Mr. A.P. Verma and Mr. Syed Shahnawaj Haider Abidi, Officials of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The dignitaries from Hospitality industry include Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, President UPHRA, Hony Secretary, HRANI and Hony. Jt Secretary, FHRAI; Mr. Garish Oberoi, Vice President, FHRAI, General Secretary UPHRA and Treasurer, HRANI and Mr. Ravi S Khanna, Treasurer, UPHRA. The event also witnessed the presence of Mrs Suneeti Toteja, Director FSSAI and Ms Pritha Tripathi, Scientist I (Training).
The session was conducted by the eminent Trainer Dr. Venkat Pasupathy, who has spent last 18 years in specialising food safety implementation in Hospitality. Gurugram Session held on February 3, 2017 at Ramada Gurgaon Central
The second edition of Master session was held in the financial and technological hub - Gurugram. The inaugural sessions of the event was graced by Mr. V. Umashankar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram as Chief Guest. The other dignitaries include Mrs Suneeti Toteja, Director FSSAI; Mr. Luv Malhotra, Immediate Former President HRANI and Mr. Vishvapreet Singh Cheema, Member, Managing Committee and Mrs Renu Thapliyal, Secretary General, HRANI and Ms Pritha Tripathi, Scientist I (Training). The event was attended by Mr. K.K. Sharma, Food Safety officer, Gurugram. The session was taken by the eminent Trainers Dr. Venkat Pasupathy, Dr. Aviekal Kakkar and Mr. Neeraj Chandok.
The closing and certification ceremony was held right after the assessment of the candidates. The ceremony was graced by Sh. Vinay Pratap, IAS Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram including, Mr. Vivek Kalia, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram from Government of Haryana. The other dignitaries include Mr. M.S. Mittal, Managing Director, Ramada Gurugaon Central. The session was well attended by Food experts of the hospitality industry.
Delhi Session held on February 9, 2017 at The Imperial, Janpath
The third edition of FSSAI and HRANI session for Master Trainer was held in the India's capital territory - New Delhi at The Imperial, Janpath.
The inaugural session and lamp lighting ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of Sh. Pawan Kumar Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and Dr. Mrinalini Darswal, Commissioner Food Safety, Delhi. The other dignitaries of industry includes Mr. Sanjay Sood, President HRANI; Mr. Garish Oberoi, Treasurer HRANI, Mr. Vijai Wanchoo, Sr. Executive Vice President, The Imperial, Mr Vinod Gulati, Member, Managing Committee, HRANI and Mrs. Renu Thapliyal, Secretary General HRANI.
Mr. Sanjay Sood, President HRANI in his address mentioned that Food Safety is a key factor in hospitality experience and ensuring the same is the fundamental duty of our industry. He also congratulated FSSAI for initiating Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC) Programme under capacity building scheme. Mr. Garish Oberoi, Treasurer HRANI further thanked the Authority for taking up the mammoth responsibility of ensuring food safety to the nation vis a vis addressing the representation of stakeholders through discussions and validation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pawan Agarwal, CEO FSSAI said that, "This will ensure that the food safety and hygiene as per FSSAI regulations is maintained in all restaurants & hotels in Northern region particularly in NCR. These Master trainers will in-turn train the Food Safety Supervisors in all hospitality establishments in Northern Region." He also mentioned that over a period of time it will be mandatory for all hotels and restaurants to have atleast one trained and certified Food Safety Supervisor.
To conclude, the Master Session in Delhi was well attended by stalwarts of hospitality industry and saw participation of learned delegates from corporate as well as academia.
Delhi Session held on February 13, 2017 at Eros Hotel, Nehru Place
The fourth edition of FSSAI and HRANI session for Master Trainer was held in New Delhi at Eros Hotel, Nehru Place.
Mr. Sanjay Sood, President HRANI welcomed the august gathering by delivering an influential address.
Sharing her views, Mrs. Suneeti Toteja, Director FSSAI apprised the gathering about the importance of displaying Food Safety Display Boards (FSDBs) at their premises. She also said that FSDB acts as a key stakeholder in setting the positive public discourse in spreading awareness around the Serve Safe initiative, thereby, promoting safe and nutritious food while eating out.
Dr. Mrinalini Darswal, Commissioner Food Safety, Delhi graced both the Delhi sessions by her esteemed presence. Sharing her valuable information on Food Safety, Standard and compliance of FSS Act 2006 through a presentation, Dr. Darswal imparted the knowledge on the robust compliance of the Food Safety Management Systems prescribed under the said Act/Rules and Regulations. The presentation served as an informative source for the audience overall.
The Delhi Session held at Eros Hotel, Nehru Place also witnessed the presence of eminent luminaries of the industry; Mr. Luv Malhotra, Immediate Past President HRANI; Mr. Saeed Shervani, Hony. Secretary FAITH and Former President FHRAI & HRANI; Mr. Pawan Agarwal, Managing Committee Member HRANI and Mr. Vinod Gulati, Managing Committee Member HRANI including other notable personalities from FSSAI - Mrs. Suneeti Toteja, Director FSSAI; Ms. Pritha Tripathi, Scientist I (Training) FSSAI and Ms. Meenakshi Verma, FSMS Division FSSAI were also present during the sessions.

NCR Session held at Radisson Blu, Kaushambi
The fifth edition of FSSAI and HRANI session for Master Trainer was held on April 12, 2017 at Radisson Blu, Kaushambi.
The session witnessed the presence of hospitality luminaries including Mr. Sanjay Sood, President, HRANI; Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, President UPHRA & Hony. Secretary, HRANI and Mr. Garish Oberoi, Vice President FHRAI & Treasurer, HRANI. 33 food experts took the benefit of Training.
The session was conducted by learned Trainer Mr. Neeraj Chandok & Ms. Heena Yadav, Consultant, FSSAI. The vote of thanks was passed by Sh. Garish Oberoi. Addressing the valedictory session, Mr. Oberoi thanked the team of Radisson Blu for hosting the session. He also expressed his gratitude to the trainers and FSSAI for all support.
